About
The purpose of The Madelyn, Kadence, and Joseph Foundation (MKJ Foundation) is to provide low cost or no cost burial spaces for victims of violent crimes or accidents due to violence. The MKJ Foundation addresses a critical gap in support for families experiencing sudden and violent loss. Public Cemetery Districts are restricted in their ability to offer financial assistance or give donations of burial spaces. By forming this non-profit, the Foundation can receive charitable contributions, pursue grants, and build a sustainable resource for donated burial spaces. This structure allows for timely support in extraordinary situations and ensures the Foundation can expand its impact through coordinated fundraising and outreach efforts.
How it works
The MKJ Foundation accepts donations of burial spaces and monetary gifts to help families experiencing tragic and violent loss.( Please note that as of November 6, 2025 the Foundation can receive personal checks, cashiers checks and cash, in the near future it will be able to receive direct debit donations) The Foundation works in partnership with the Antelope Valley Cemetery District to identify and support qualified cases where a family cannot afford a burial space due to an extraordinary and unexpected death, such as a violent crime, accident, or the death of an innocent child caught in violence. Each case is reviewed by the Board of Directors against consistent criteria. Donated burial spaces are either held for future use or immediately designated for a family in need. No monies are given directly to individuals. The Foundation does not fund the opening, closing, or marker-setting fees, which must be paid directly to the cemetery district.
